Tirthankar heads the Data Science department at the financial services arm of the multi-billion dollar Aditya Birla Group. As a Big Data leader and a digital native, he is focused on bridging the group’s data science and engineering gap.
ABFL is committed to digital innovation, and its investment in new projects should serve as a model for others.
The group’s CXOs had been struggling to obtain timely business insights, finding off-the-shelf BI tools too complicated. The business analysts had a turnaround time of one week.
Tirthankar’s idea was to build a natural language, search-powered custom tool, and show its prototype at the group’s upcoming general conference in Budapest. After the agency hired for the job failed to deliver, he had only one week to build it.
In his first attempt to complete the prototype, he brought the agency to his office, but it quickly became clear the team couldn’t deliver. None of the services companies in his vendor list could help either. Eventually, he found Ankit, a leading data scientist and previous Indiez customer.
Ankit had been working with Indiez for a few months, and was well aware of the speed at which our tech agency partners could design and build. He connected Tirthankar with Indiez.
After discussing all the requirements of the project, we reviewed our database of agency partners to identify those with the right specific expertise and areas of experience. We presented a selection of highly qualified tech agencies for TIrthankar's approval, and in just one day, he had selected the team that would build his final product.
Our agency partner had one week to build the prototype, and its success depended on a reliable NLP solution and stunning designs. The tech team comprised five members: a Product Manager, UX Designer, Visual Designer, Data Scientist, and Full Stack Developer. The team had a clear goal and set to work immediately.
Our agency partner began with rigorous product design in parallel with cleaning the data sets and architecting the best fit NLU model. Having previously designed AI products with the team who built Siri, the UX Designer knew the right points to address. He brought a new dimension of social collaboration to the product, and introduced an 'insight cards' driven approach.
Meanwhile, the Data Scientist architected a fully custom model using knowledge gained from previous experience filing two patents in the same domain.
In one week, Tirthankar witnessed the fast, remote collaboration of the tech team over Slack, Skype, and Google Docs, and the development of a prototype that was beyond all expectations.
Throughout the entire process, Indiez monitored the progression of the product. We were in constant communication with both Tirthankar and the tech team to ensure every aspect was on track, both sides were happy, and we had a quality product set for timely delivery.
The conference delegates were dazzled by the power of the prototype, and Tirthankar received a standing ovation from his colleagues. The accuracy of the model and the additional feature of social collaboration were both appreciated, and Indiez was set to be an Innovation Partner for ABFL.
The project was commissioned instantly, and all managers leading multiple digital initiatives reached out to work with Indiez on their projects going forward.
